I just got asked this on a recent podcast interview and it came up again in the context of gardening. I have had this question in my head for years, so I figured it was worth digging for this post.
I’m not sure why this is, but I tend to think that the word “gardening” and “trading” are more or less synonymous. The difference is that gardeners trade plants for other plants, while garden traders sell plants. Both methods have their own distinct advantages and disadvantages.
It’s true that both gardeners and garden traders trade plants for other plants. It could be that the term is more ambiguous than that, but I do find it less confusing to say “gardeners trade plants for other gardeners” than it is to say “gardeners trade plants for other gardeners”.
Garden traders and garden traders are two different people. I think the term is used more often to describe gardeners, as in “we sell plants” rather than garden traders. Garden traders are the ones who trade plants in hopes of selling them to gardeners. Garden traders, if you will, are the people who sell plants to gardeners. Garden traders are a more common term for gardeners which is why the link above refers to garden traders.
Gifting, planting, and selling plants and flowers is a common activity in many parts of the world, especially in rural areas. When I was in college, my best friend, and later her husband, would come to my apartment for a few days. They’d go for walks, or spend the night in my bed, and then I’d help them sort through the plants and flowers that we had collected.
The term garden trader refers to someone who sells plants, but it can also refer to someone who sells plants to gardeners. In this case, I think garden trader may be a little more appropriate.
The garden trader is a busy person who sells a lot of plants. The person selling to gardeners usually has a hobby that keeps them busy. Gardeners who buy plants are usually busy people who have a lot of other things to do, or they work at a plant store or garden shop.
It’s a great idea the first time you try it, but if you buy it again, you’ll have to learn to get through the checkout because the process is very stressful. The checkout line is a long, very busy line, which makes it difficult for the person to know how to do the math in order to decide which plants are worth $1.50 each. If you walk down the line and buy two plants, you’ve already spent $3.50.
This is a common problem for most people buying plants on the internet. The plants they get are in a very wide range of price per square foot and in some cases they will only have one plant of equal price. It can be very difficult to understand what to do in these situations.
The good news is that the Garden Trading System (GTS) is an online tool that allows people to find and buy plants at a wide range of prices per square foot. This makes it easy for people to find and buy plants. If you are looking to get started, check out the GTS.
